My name is Rosita Castellano, daughter of Martha Argel (Haida) and William Laronal (Hawaii). I am so excited to have been chosen to be a Lodge Director for Chief Leschi Middle School. I was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington and spent much of my youth both on and off of the Puyallup Reservation. To return here to serve during my first year as an administrator is both and honor and a privilege. It is with this lens that I will serve you and your loved ones. My first 5 years of teaching were spent at the middle school level and I taught another 6 years in alternative learning in the area of English/Language Arts and instructional support. I also taught 6th grade for just one year at Chief Leschi in 2009. I have been married to Zachary Castellano (Hawaii) for 11 years and together we have a son, Cosmo, who is 10 years old. I have no doubt you will get a chance to meet two of the most important people in my life as we move throughout the school year. The values that comprise my core are: family, justice, and education. I fully include school as part of my family and who I am as a person.

My commitment to families and students:

I am here to support the entire educational experience of both you and your students who are enrolled in our school. It is my duty to be your child’s number one advocate. I will do this with consistent communication through various forms (website, email, letters home, social media, phone calls), my doors will be open for collaboration in the best interest of your child, community events will be plentiful to provide ample time for us to be together as a community, as well as many more opportunities to get to know each other and support your student throughout the year. I commit to each student as an individual and will seek to personalize his or her educational experience in a way that best suits each students’ strengths and encourages growth as it pertains to each child.

My commitment to faculty and staff:

I am an educator at heart, so I genuinely care about our students. Because of this, I care about our teaching staff. You have the most important job in our building and I will honor that in several ways. As part of a dynamic leadership team, my first job is to fully support your work in the classroom and around the school. Whether you are a first year teacher or a seasoned veteran, my role is to support your instruction as it aligns to the initiatives and goals of our school. As a teacher for the last 11 years, I truly value and honor the work you do every day. As a leader, this, as well as each students’ best interest, will be the focus of our collaborative work throughout the building and individually. We will do this through focused goals, on-going professional development to support these goals, maintaining an open-door policy to collaborate in problem-solving and celebration, and most of all listening to you.
